Planning Your Holiday

Because each location has its own unique terrain, historical sites and walking requirements, it is important to consult your chosen itinerary and discuss with a Tour Advisor if you have any concerns about suitability. Please note that we often use multiple modes of transport across our touring programme, including coaches and trains which have multiple levels and are less accessible.

Additionally, to preserve the historical integrity of landmark sites, original features often remain intact, including walkways, staircases and other passages that may be uneven or otherwise difficult to navigate for some guests.

If you have any conditions that would be declared to an insurance company, and would affect a group travel experience, please call our Tour Advisors to discuss. Our team is on hand to support you with any questions and, in conjunction with the mobility ratings, we can help you book the trip of a lifetime with Great Rail Journeys.

Transport & Transfers

Our tours utilise various transportation methods, including Eurostar, local railways, scenic trains, coaches, ferries and boats. While reasonable accommodations are available during many transfers, exclusions may apply, so be sure to contact our Tour Advisors with any concerns.

Accommodation

At the time of booking, please make your Tour Advisor aware of any accessibility concerns you may have, as our handpicked hotels present a variety of accommodation options. If the facility cannot cater to your needs, we will work with you to find a more suitable holiday option.

Ships

Europe's river cruise ships are accessed by stairs and narrow gangways. Before booking your river cruise, consider if your mobility allows you to board independently, and then speak to a Tour Advisor about your holiday's ship to see if its rooms are accessible for your needs.

Walking

Consult your itinerary and its mobility rating to see how much walking is included on your holiday. While you are free to relax instead of explore, many destinations bring the opportunity to walk around and sightsee. These excursions could include uneven walkways, narrow paths, crowded streets or long distances that should be considered prior to booking. Furthermore, mobility ratings also take into account the walk to and from your hotel, which could include carrying your own luggage.

Excursions

From walking tours and sightseeing by coach to heritage train rides, cruises and landmark visits, each of Great Rail Journeys' holidays features excursions to enhance your journey. View your tour's online page before booking and your travel documents ahead of departure to learn what is included, and contact a Tour Advisor with any questions about suitability.
